SELF EMPLOYED PROGRAM
The Business Immigration Program is designed to encourage and facilitate the admission of these individuals. Both the federal and provincial/territorial governments welcome business immigrants and offer services to help immigrants start a business and settle in Canada
SELF-EMPLOYED PERSON
An immigrant is admitted to Canada because they have relevant experience in working for himself or herself. The person must intend and be able to become self-employed in Canada in the arts or athletics.
To qualify as a self-employed immigrant, you must:

meet the definition of a self-employed person

get a minimum of 35 points after we grade you based on our five selection criteria and point system
Federal Self-Employed Program Requirements
In the five years before you submit an application for the business immigration, the candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant work experience in their field of expertise. Professional athletes and members of the arts and culture msust demonstrate:

either 2 years of self-employment in their industry

2 years of involvement at the highest level possible

or one year combination of all three

The minimum passing score to be selected is 35. Supporting documentation is required.
